Thousands of people have been displaced to the Chollo (Shilluk) kingdom during the fierce fighting between the government and anti-government forces in the state capital, Malakal.

The Chollo Intellectuals expressed grave concern over the humanitarian crisis currently afflicting Chollo Kingdom where hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced by the incident that started on the night of 15th December 2013 in Juba.

Chollo intellectuals were speaking during a press conference on Thursday in New Sudan Palace Hotel in Juba. 

Prof. Joshua Otor Akol the chairperson of CIC said during although a cessation of hostilities have been Agreement has been signed; humanitarian need is dire for the thousands of people displaced.

Prof. Otor said currently IDPs are scattered over the four counties of Chollo Kingdom; Manyo, Fashoda, Makal and Panyikango while a considerable number has crossed the international border into the Republic of Sudan for refuge in the adjacent states and beyond.

“We strongly appeal to the relief and humanitarian organizations and non-governmental organizations working in the field to urgently rescue the dire situation of the displaced persons,” he said.

A total of 305,000 people have been displaced to the counties of Manyo, Fashoda, Makal, Malakal town and Panyikango.
