The tragic incident occurred at Pan-thony residential area in Aweil South County, Northern Bahr el Bahr el Ghazal state (NBGS). The assassin identified Ajak Wol Majak shot his in-law on the chest, injuring three month old child as well.

Mawien Wol Majak, the husband of the deceased, also a former SPLA soldier left the military for Wildlife and is based in Aweil town. The two brothers are said to be having internal dispute between them that led to the death of the deceased.

According to a report issued by Aweil South County Commissioner Jiel Mangok Yel, the assassin also suffers from mental psychosis since 2012. It is this health problem that led to his release from the military administration from his base in Malakal.

“This perpetrator was said to be having mental perplexity for a number of years where he was believed to be under medical care organized by the relatives. He even attempted to commit suicide twice but survived both attempts,” said Jiel.

“I was told that the offender used his brother’s gun to shoot the deceased. He found the gun in the brother’s hut where he picked it and used it against the wife, shooting her on the chest while the child was shot on the arm.”

The commissioner added that the killer was arrested by the county authorities and is yet to be sent to the town central prison for full detention.

“The culprit was arrested while advancing to the town with allegations of hunting for more people. He is now under detention here in the county and we are now preparing for his escort to Aweil town for further imprisonment,” the commissioner explained.
