Saskatoon Police have confirmed to have verified that a body found along the Saskatchewan River over the weekend is that of a former Nova Scotia man who was believed to have fallen into the river. According to the Police, autopsy conducted on Tuesday on the human remains recovered near Melfort, confirmed that the deceased’s identity is Gregory “Myles” MacIntosh.

The 28-year-old MacIntosh was brought up in the Lunenburg area and had Shelburne County family ties as well. Marine researchers discovered his body near the river and notified Melfort, RCMP. Previously, MacIntosh had been reported missing by his fiancé after he failed to return home after visiting a Saskatoon bar with friends on Feb. 2. After due investigation, the Saskatoon Police Service concluded that MacIntosh fell into the South Saskatchewan River. Police revealed that the investigation found MacIntosh was asked to leave the bar following a disturbance. Thereafter, he boarded a pub-crawl bus that was traveling to another bar and minutes later, police were called to an altercation between two men on the same bus. However, he left on foot before officers could arrive.

At the same time, police received a report alleging that a person had fallen into the South Saskatchewan Rivera, however emergency responders failed to locate any body after an elaborate search. The following day, Saskatoon Police found blood on the ice and it was tested and confirmed to be that of MacIntosh. A 33-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the case.
