The new Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has made quite an invitation list for his swearing-in including invitations sent to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif and Mamta Banerjee of Trinamol Congress.

The controversial invitation to Nawaz Sharif which lead to negative remarks from the opposition parties, has been accepted by the Pakistani Prime Minister who is now expected to make his visit to India this Monday to attend Modi’s oath taking. Sharif took his time to accept the invitation, making both Indians and Pakistani leaders speculate the pro and cons of accepting or rejecting the invitation. Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was one of the leaders on PML-N who made his father accept the invitation. Twitter was filled with tweets in which she supported her father’s decision.  “I personally think cordial relations with new Indian government should be cultivated. It will help remove psychological barriers, fear and misgivings,” Maryam Sharif tweeted a day ago. After the decision was made, she tweeted: “Aggression is easy to start but difficult to end… Brutality and force are tools of the immoral … “

On the other hand, Mamta Banerjee made sure that her West Bengal government does not go unrepresented on the oath taking ceremony on the 26th. She kept her track record of not attending any oath taking ceremony of Modi but is sending two representatives to represent her party and government. Trinamool Congress national secretary Mukul Roy and state finance minister Amit Mitra will be present at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan this Monday.
