The suspect awaiting possible charges of child abduction after allegedly abducting a newborn baby named Victoria from a hospital in Trois-Rivières seems to be in worse shape than initially revealed. According to new details revealed by Quebec Crown prosecutor, Marie-Eve Paquet, on Wednesday, the 21-year-old woman is in stable condition but is “unconscious and intubated” after she reportedly took large amounts of medication before her arrest.

Consequently, the suspect’s court appearance had to be postponed for the time being since it was previously not aware of her unspecified health condition and mental state. The prosecutor has confirmed that the woman is so far unable to communicate with her lawyer and understand the proceedings or the charges against her. Hence, despite being arrested for days, Police has not been able to interview her or formally laid charges. A spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, Hugo Fournier, explained that “we are still waiting for the green light from her doctors so we can meet her and have her appear in court.”

The woman is accused of posing as a nurse to make off with the 16-hour-old baby of Mélissa McMahon and her husband, Simon Boisclair, from a Trois-Rivières hospital on Monday night. She was traced after being identified by her acquaintances from the Amber Alert issued by the SQ and located at her Trois-Rivières apartment before calling police. Several friends and acquaintances of the woman are painting a picture of her as a troubled woman with severe mental-health issues.
