NB Power crews are still working continuously to restore power throughout the province as almost more than 93,000 customers still remain without electricity two days after post-tropical storm Arthur hit the region. According to an update on NB Power’s website at 5:51 a.m., the most affected area is still Fredericton, where 45,381 customers are without power, while admitting that there are still many other widespread outages across the province as well.

Statistically, reports claim that an estimated 12,802 customers are still in the dark in Woodstock, western New Brunswick. Whereas within southern New Brunswick, more than 11,250 customers are without power in St. Stephen and 9,553 in Rothesay. On the other hand, an additional 6,682 customers are without power in Miramichi, eastern New Brunswick. In his public appearance on Sunday, the president and chief executive officer of NB Power, Gaëtan Thomas, predicted that half of the 135,000 of customers without electricity “should have power back by midnight tonight. The majority of our customers by noon on Monday.” Furthermore, he added that the rest, particularly customers in rural areas, would be without power until Wednesday or Thursday.

NB Power alleged that post-tropical storm named Arthur has caused the largest blackout in New Brunswick’s history. NB Power announced to have had more than 155 crews working on Sunday, while back-up crews were in the province from Maine and Quebec. Weather updates show that the storm brought strong winds and heavy rain, among which the strongest winds were recorded in Fredericton, where gusts hit 100 km/h.
