"Trying"

The boss is an aging legend, cantankerous but charismatic. His new assistant is young and vulnerable, but full of grit. When the two interact at work, the fun begins. Based on the playwright’s own real-life experience as a young secretary from the Canadian prairie who finds herself working for the aging Francis Biddle, the primary judge on the postwar Nuremberg Trials, Trying is a hopeful and humorous tale of friendship amid life’s most inevitable adventure: growing old. Upon its off-Broadway debut, The New York Times praised the show as “comic and touching.” Now International City Theatre stages a fresh production of this bracing, brilliant play by Joanna McClelland Glass (Canadian Gothic, Yesteryear).
