The Toronto Police have confirmed to have launched a criminal investigation into sexual allegations laid against former CBC Radio host, Jian Ghomeshi. Toronto Police spokesman, Mark Pugash, reported to The Canadian Press that “two women have come forward with allegations,” adding that “they are being investigated.”

Several reports have alleged that one of the women is Lucy DeCoutere, i.e. a Trailer Park Boys actress, who publicly revealed her identity on Wednesday and alleged that Mr. Ghomeshi assaulted her on a 2003 date. The Ghomeshi scandal became a police matter only hours after CBC executives confirmed that they fired the host after witnessing “graphic” evidence that he was injuring others. Executive vice-president of the company, Heather Conway, mentioned in an internal staff memo that “on Thursday, Oct. 23, CBC saw for the first time graphic evidence that Jian had caused physical injury to a woman.” Furthermore, the message provides the first evidence as to why CBC brass decided to cut ties with Mr. Ghomeshi last Sunday, going so far as to bar him access to CBC headquarters in Toronto.

Furthermore, the letter clarified that CBC was aware of Toronto Star’s investigation into Mr. Ghomeshi but it believed the host’s “adamant” claims that he was being unjustly maligned by an ex-lover. Ms. Convway confirmed that there were no complaints found against the 47-year-old host in the company’s own investigation and “we also spoke to Jian at that time and asked him directly if there was any truth to the allegations.” Ms. Conway stated that “based on Jian’s denial, we continued to believe Jian.”
