Toronto man Soufian Larbi charged in connection to a human trafficking investigation

On Sunday, November 9, 2014, the Sex Crimes Human Trafficking Enforcement Team began an investigation.

It is alleged that:

– a 20-year-old woman was forced to work as a stripper and escort for the last six months

– a demand was made for the woman to make up to $3,000 a day, seven days a week

– she was forced give all of her earnings to the accused

– the woman had her passport, Social Insurance, and debit cards taken 

– she was threatened with death, along with her parents, should she try to leave

– she was forced to get a tattoo of the accused’s name to show his ownership of her

– on Saturday, November 8, 2014, a demand was made for the woman to make $5,000 the following day

– the accused also slapped the woman

On Sunday, November 9, 2014, the woman reported the allegations to police.

The same day, Soufian Larbi, 24, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) Trafficking in Persons by Recruiting 
2) Exercise Control 
3) Material Benefit resulting from trafficking in person
4) Living on Avails of Prostitution 
5) Withhold/Destroy travel document
6) Uttering Threats 
7) Assault
8) Mischief

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Monday, November 10, 2014, at 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be other victims.
