Israel’s parliament is scheduled to honor Canada’s sergeant-at-arms, Kevin Vickers, on Wednesday for his quick and calculated actions during last month’s attack on Parliament Hill. Several witnesses to the gunfight, which broke out when a shooter entered Centre Block on Parliament Hill, have alleged that Kevin Vickers played a key role in averting the gunman’s advances. Mr. Vickers was hailed the next day in two standing ovations, although he has repeatedly claimed to be only doing his job.

Jewish Telegraphic Agency mentioned in its report that Mr. Vickers is already scheduled to attend a security conference in Tel Aviv and so will be recognized by the Speaker of that country’s parliament, the Knesset, at the time. Mr. Vickers will be allowed to sit in a gallery and called on to rise and be applauded in the same manner like that Canadian parliamentarians greets its foreign guests. 58-year-old Vickers made international headlines in global newspapers for his role in stopping gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau. Additionally, Mr. Vickers also received praises by famous comedian Stephen Colbert.

In addition to that, Mr. Veckers also received a standing ovation at Sunday’s conference, when former public safety minister, Stockwell Day, said that “The International Conference on Homeland Security in Tel Aviv opened with calling Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers to the stage to acknowledge him for his courage.” Day alleged that “Vickers deflected all praise to the parliamentary security team,” adding that “it was a proud moment for us Canadians.”
