Officials have confirmed that the remains of six infants found hidden inside a Winnipeg storage locker are believed to be almost decade-old based on preliminary autopsy results. The defence lawyer representing the woman accused of concealing the remains, Greg Brodsky, revealed the latest details about the case on Friday.

According to Brodsky, a medical report has confirmed that these were not recent births. He stated that “the evidence provided so far demonstrates to me they’re ancient. Some were mummified.” Brodsky explained that insect larvae found with the remains have now been sent to an entomologist in British Columbia for further study. However, Brodsky speculated almost eight to ten year age range for all of the babies. Additionally, Brodsky also highlighted that no real evidence has surfaced to implicate any criminal conduct that took place with respect to their births. He said that “they were stillborn. They have no evidence of life after delivery” and “they don’t say if a doctor had been present at the time of deliveries it would have made any difference.”

Furthermore, Brodsky confirmed that DNA has been obtained and results are expected to confirm if the babies all shared the same birth mother or multiple mothers. Upon inquiry from Brodsky that if the eight-to-ten year range of the babies and the fact they were apparently stillborn increases the possibility his client is actually the mother, he said that “that’s speculation. I’m not going to get into speculation.”
