Vancouver Police have confirmed to have arrested a 61-year-old man after he allegedly tried to snatch a baby out of a stroller in Donald’s Market, Vancouver, soon before noon on Saturday. According to the police, the man tried to forcibly remove an infant from a stroller while the baby’s mother shopped.
A manager at the store, Gary Joe, said that “the mother was a customer here, she was shopping and that man randomly came in.” Joe alleged that the incident was witnessed by one of his co-workers who was working at the time. He said that “the baby was in the stroller so when he was trying to take the baby, I think the baby was attached to the stroller. That’s why he carried the whole thing.” According to Joe, his co-worker explained that the customers intervened to help the frantic mother free her child from the man’s grip. Store management has confirmed to have handed over video surveillance of the incident to the police.
Police also confirmed that the man allegedly proceeded towards another mother who had a baby in a stroller a short distance away while leaving the store. Furthermore, the man verbally threatened the nine-month-old infant before he was stopped by concerned citizens. Police has confirmed to have charged the man with attempted kidnapping, assault and uttering threats. Investigators believe the man’s mental health may be a factor in the incident.
