The Chinese Embassy in South Sudan on Thursday donated office furniture to the South Sudanese Women General Association in an effort to help fully furnish their offices.

JUBA, 12 February 2015 [Gurtong]: During the handover ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Ma Qiang, who presented the furniture to the association, said that it cost the Chinese embassy approximately 10,000 USD to purchase the furniture.

“Today, I am pleased to attend the handover ceremony of office tables and chairs which amounts to nearly ten thousand dollars” said Ambassador Qiang in his opening remarks.

“I believe this contribution will help a little, the Association and play a crucial role in developing the cause of South Sudanese women” said the Chinese Ambassador.

“I would like to appreciate the women association for its hardworking, good services and wonderful accomplishment of job in South Sudan.”

The Chinese Ambassador said that more efforts are needed to ensure that the social status of women in South Sudan is improved adding that the higher the status of women, the better their welfare.

Ambassador Qiang said “in addition to the donation, China has decided to contribute more to help South Sudanese people get better humanitarian assistance and services as soon as possible.”
Abuk Justin Yak, a member of the South Sudan Women General Association’s Council applauded the Chinese Ambassador for the effort in supporting them. “We are very happy and want to appreciate what China has done for us Women of South Sudan.

“This is the first Ambassador to donate to us, there is no ambassador who has helped us before like this.” said Abuk.

Sarah James Akech, the Chairperson of the Women’s General Association appreciated the Chinese Ambassador.

Elizabeth Kiden, Chairperson of South Sudan Business Women Forum on her part said “we are well aware of the support China has been giving to the people of South Sudan. This is a big achievement.”

Kiden appreciated the Chinese donation.
