Arrest made in Peel police officer stabbing

Mississauga –Investigators from the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested and charged a 47 year old male in relation to a stabbing of a Peel Regional Police Officer. The incident occurred in the Winston Churchill Boulevard and Laird Road area of Mississauga.

On Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., officers responded to a call for a male who appeared to be suffering a mental health crisis. Police made contact with that male and an altercation ensued resulting in the male stabbing one of the uniformed officers. The male then stole one of the fully marked police vehicles and fled from the scene.

The officer suffered a serious injury and was taken to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The male was located shortly after and was taken into custody.

Farhad AKHALWAYA, a Mississauga resident is charged with Attempt Murder, Theft over $5000 and Uttering Threats. AKHALWAYA is being held for a bail hearing and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on April 10, 2015.
