Come join us at Toronto’s inaugural Data Unconference, taking place Friday, June 19, 2015 — during NXNE, Toronto’s festival of creativity (at BrightLane, 545 King St. West, on the 4th Floor).
The Data Unconference is a community event to explore the future of data: a gathering that features both the theoretical and practical aspects of living in a data-driven world. From discussions about privacy and governance, to hands-on sessions showcasing tools and how to use them, the day is planned as an opportunity to learn from those further along the path, whether you’re a novice or an expert.
The day kicks off with a keynote by futurist Jerrard B. Gaertner, SB (MIT), CPA, CA, CA-IT, CISA, CGEIT, CISSP, CIPP/IT, CIA, CFI, I.S.P., ITCP, who will be talking about ‘Morality, Ethics, and the Social Compact in a Big Data Society.’
Sessions include:
– an IBM-sponsored panel on Data Science featuring Kerry Liu, CEO of Roubikloud,
– a two-hour roll-up-your-sleeves session on working with open data with Richard Pietro,
– Using Couchbase Server, NoSQL document database architecture and customer use-cases (with Don Pinto),
– Iterative data discovery and transformation with OpenRefine, with Martin Magdinier, Founder and CEO of RefinePro,
– and just to mix it up, a discussion on A Day in the Life of Internet of Things, with science fiction author and Swift Satire Award-winner, Ira Nayman.
Also, because it is an Unconference, speaking spots will be left open (in the afternoon) for interested people to propose and present a session — right up to the last minute. Feel free to email us at speak2015@dataunconference.ca with your session idea.
There are plenty of opportunities to network and connect with the industry, including at the after-party.
