Saban Theatre (Beverly Hills, CA)
Gary Lewis, son of comedian Jerry Lewis, was a success from a young age, scoring a gig at Disneyland with his band the Playboys in 1964. In 1965 Gary was Cash Box magazine’s “Male Vocalist of the Year,” winning the honor over other nominees Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. He and the band’s first single, “Diamond Ring,” went straight to number one, followed soon after by a string of top ten hits, including “Count Me In,” “Save Your Heart for Me,” “Everybody Loves a Clown,” “She’s Just My Style” and “Sure Gonna Miss Her.” With the continuing interest in “oldies” music, Gary Lewis & the Playboys continue to be an in-demand act and their performance at the Saban Theatre will be an entertaining trip down memory lane.
