Born in the UK and raised in Canada, Michelle Willis hails from a family of lets sing that James Taylor song again kind of people at holidays. She spent the last five years performing as a side musician with artists as diverse as Iggy & The Stooges, Zac Brown Band, Snarky Puppy, Laura Mvula, and many Canadian roots, pop and folk musicians. Combine that with a jazz degree in piano, a childhood spent singing in choirs, and years honing her songwriting skills with Three Metre Day bandmates Don Rooke Mary Margaret OHara and Hugh Marsh Ursula Rucker, Bruce Cockburn, and it was only a matter of time before she set sights on a solo career. Her new album, See Us Through March 2016, fuses the nuances of early 70s soul, singer-songwriter and modern folk-jazz genres, each song bathed in a sea of voices and hymnbook harmony. Backed by her band Thom Gill, Charles James and Phil Melanson and fresh off the plane after touring in Europe opening for Snarky Puppy, Michelle returns home to Burdock on November 15.
