NO EXPERIENCE IN EITHER KNITTING OR VIDEOGAMES NECESSARY! Were all here to learn from each other, and everyone is welcome.
This event is presented by the Hand Eye Society, Yarns Untangled, and Lab T.O.

YARN AND PLAY: PRESENTATIONS
Hand Eye Society director Sagan Yee will give a brief presentation of discoveries she made while looking into the seemingly unlikely intersections between textiles and videogames! From the 1990 fantasy adventure game Loom to patchwork epics like Kirbys Epic Yarn and Little Big Planet, as well as obscure historical highlights like that that one time Nintendo thought it would be cool to make a sewing machine extension for the NES. Well even look beyond screen-based digital work to experimental alternative controllers that use textiles as their medium of play, including the blanket tent game Mouffe http://www.mouffegame.com and Knitting Simulator 2014 Kara Stone and Gabby DaRienzo. If all goes well, we will have a mini-arcade of some of these games set up so particicipants can actually play them on-site.
Anyone is encouraged to contribute to the discussion with their own textiles/videogame-related microtalk or show-and-tell, whether its about your adventures in machine-knit scarves, making plushies of the Companion Cube from Portal, or showing off your Amiibo from Yoshis Woolly World. Post in the comments, e-mail me at sagan@handeyesociety.com, or just show up!
KNITTING CIRCLE
BYON Bring Your Own Needles or borrow a pair and learn how to knit for the first time! Lifelong knitting instructor Brenna MacDonald from Yarns Untangled in Kensington Market will be on hand to teach and inspire. We have about 35 pairs of knitting needles mostly 6-8mm for people to borrow, as well as the option to buy a ball of yarn for an extra fee. Participants are more than welcome to bring their own materials and techniques like crocheting, rug hooking, needlefelting, amigurumi and other textile arts.
