Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was recently detained at the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi. The reason behind his detention was that the singer, who was stopped by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at terminal 3, had approximately 1.24 lack US dollars that was undisclosed in addition to Indian and Pakistani currency. Khan (37) was detained at the airport around 3.45 pm, till the time of filing of the report, he was with DRI officials. Around 11 pm, DRI was going to begin questioning Khan and his entourage of 14 persons. Khan was to board an Emirates flight to Karachi via Dubai scheduled to take off around 4 pm, when the currency was found in his baggage.

Khan was here to perform at an Indo-Pakistan peace initiative. However, the latest update is that Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has stepped in personally to look into the singer’s detention over undeclared foreign currency. Malik even called up the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi and spoke with the envoy, Shahid Malik.

The minister has since asked for details about Rahat’s detention at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, in addition to Pakistani High Commissioner to monitor the matter closely.
