Reports on Sunday are saying that protesters have taken over the towns of Misurata and Zawiyah. While the Libyan leader may still be in control of the capital Tripoli, one has to note that Zawiyah is only 50 km from Tripoli. It is merely be a question of time. It is inevitable.
On Saturday, the U.N. Security Council unanimously imposed travel bans on Gaddafi, his family and inner circle plus voted to freeze the assets of these people. The Council went on to demand an immediate end to the violence and for steps to address the concerns of the people. It also called for Libyan authorities to respect international humanitarian law and to act with restraint. The U.N. has also put an arms embargo in place to prevent any resupplying of Gaddafi’s forces.
Transitional Government
VOA has written that Mustafa Abdel Jalil, Libya’s former justice minister, has announced that he has formed a transitional government based in Libya’s second-largest city of Benghazi which includes military and civilian figures. He has stated this government will lead for no more than three months and prepare for fair elections to enable Libyans to choose their leader.
No one knows at the moment how much support this caretaker government will have in other opposition-held communities. However Libya’s Ambassador to the United States Ali Aujali was quoted on Saturday as saying he supports this move by Abdel Jalil. Aujali is one of many Libyan diplomats around the world who severed ties with the Gaddafi regime since the uprising started.
War Crimes
As well as imposing sanction, the U.N. has taken the step of referring Gaddafi’s recent actions against his people to the International Criminal Court. Reuters explains what the court is and how it may act once a new government is in place. It is a reminder that Gaddafi cannot act with impunity within the international community. If he goes too far – and there is no doubt he already has – he can be made to pay for his crimes.

Battle for Tripoli continues
Most of Libya is out of control of the government, and Muammar Gaddafi’s grip on power may soon be confined only to Tripoli, Libya’s former interior minister told Al Jazeera. General Abdul Fatteh Younis, called upon Gaddafi’s leader to end his resistance to the uprising, although he does not expect him to do so. The embattled Libyan regime of passed out guns to civilian supporters, set up checkpoints and sent armed patrols roving the terrorised capital on Saturday. Some of Libya’s security forces reportedly have given up the fight. Footage believed to be filmed on Friday appeared to show soldiers in uniform joining the protesters. Al Jazeera’s Hoda Abdel-Hamid is in eastern Libya from where she wraps up the latest from across the country.

Gaddafi: music video star
Al Jazeera reported an amusing send-up of our favourite dictator.
AFP reports that while Libyan leader Gaddafi may be reviled by many of his own people and the international community, he’s enjoying an unexpected surge of popularity – as a music video star. The clip was created by Israeli musician and DJ Noy Alooshe and appears to be wildly popular in the Arab world despite its origins in the Jewish state.
A remix of a rambling 75-minute speech Gaddafi delivered on Tuesday, set to dance music and featuring the strongman alongside footage of two gyrating girls, has gone viral on the Internet….racked up almost half a million views on the video-sharing website YouTube since it was posted three days ago. Called "Zenga Zenga," the music video mixes Gaddafi’s quotes with club beats, using lines in which he vows to fight "inch by inch, home by home, alley by alley" as the chorus for the song.
Alooshe also took into account the sensibilities of the Muslim world and posted a version of the spoof without the scantily clad dancing girls.
