ING customers are yet again facing problems with internet banking services on Monday afternoon due to a malfunction resulting in ING accounts being invisible. The initial report was received on Allestoringen at around 11:00 am and tens of thousands of reports have been submitted in a short time.

Recurring Technical Difficulties

ING customers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the recurring issues. Many are still frustrated because the bank had similar disruptions on March 24 and April 24 of this year. ING acknowledged the setback in a statement to the press, as a spokesperson said, “Savings accounts are currently not visible in the app. As a result, customers cannot transfer money from, for example, a savings account to a checking account.”

Brief Interruption in Payment Transactions

Earlier in the day, ING experienced problems with payment transactions. The issues created complications for customers while logging into the internet banking and ING app platforms. However, the spokesperson confirmed that this issue has now been resolved. ING assured its customers that they are doing everything they can to alleviate the malfunction soonest, while many still have accessibility problems within their accounts.

It is unclear when the problem will be fully resolved, and the bank has not revealed the cause of the malfunction.

Clients can’t transfer funds to personal accounts

ING bank apologizes to clients for malfunction that has caused inability to transfer money from their savings account to their personal checking account. The bank confirmed these issues to the press, but details of the cause have not yet been released to the public.

In a statement from an ING spokesperson, they clarified, “Savings accounts are currently not visible in the app. As a result, customers cannot transfer money from, for example, a savings account to a checking account.” The spokesperson assures customers that the bank is working around the clock to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The Ongoing Battle of Banks to Maintain Systems

While it is excellent news for banks’ customers, having access to perform transactions from anywhere at any time, malfunctions such as these can be frustrating. Several banks have on different occasions experienced technical problems over the past year, not just in the Netherlands but globally as well.

Throughout the banking industry, IT systems are being replaced with improved ones, while online banking services are improving to meet the stringent requirements of sensitive customer information protection. However, despite several assurances of operational efficiency, it is apparent that these banking IT infrastructures are still vulnerable to technical difficulties, despite banks’ considerable investments in their digital transformation and security systems.

Conclusion

This incident has brought to light the vulnerabilities of the banking system. While banks need to assure their customers of workable and efficient online banking platforms, it is their responsibility to deal with unforeseen technical difficulties. The burgeoning advancements in the online banking sector show the need for greater emphasis to be placed on technological innovation and security systems to ensure that customers do not experience setbacks in their banking experience.
