Today, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) is pleased to launch its new Am I pregnant? online and mobile application to help Canadian women better understand the signs and symptoms of pregnancy and determine what their chances are of having conceived.

Some Canadians await the answer to the question "Am I pregnant?" with great anticipation, while others do so with great trepidation. While this quiz cannot confirm whether or not a woman is pregnant, the series of nine questions helps women assess the likelihood that they are pregnant. This quiz cannot replace a urine or blood pregnancy test to officially confirm pregnancy.

"Because women sometimes need answers and reassurance outside of a health-care provider’s or pharmacy’s business hours, tools like the Am I pregnant? software provide them with a credible resource they can access where and when they want, to get some of the guidance they need" said Dr. Amanda Black, an obstetrician-gynaecologist with the SOGC who helped develop the program.

This new application helps put things into perspective by inquiring about such topics as menstrual cycle, unprotected sex, birth control, emergency contraception, and pregnancy-related symptoms.

The Am I Pregnant? application complements the SOGC’s existing suite of online and/or mobile applications found on the sexualityandu.ca website. It is complementary to the Choosing Wisely application designed to help women choose the contraception that is best for them and their lifestyle, as well as the S.O.S. – Stay on Schedule application introduced in 2009 to help women determine the appropriate course of action to take in the event that they have forgotten or extended the use of their contraception.

The SOGC and its members are proud to provide Canadian women with the information and support they need, both personally and … virtually.
