Acting government spokesman, Telecommunications Minister Madut Biar Yel told the press that the Council of Ministers resolved that 443 new personnel will be employed.

“The recruitment of additional 443 medical doctors has been approved by the Council of Ministers in a bid to address the human resource challenges in the health sector”, said Yel.

He added that the Health Minister Dr Hussein Mile Michael has also requested for the approval of hardship allowances for medical doctors and health workers working in the remote areas in the country.

The Minister also said that South Sudan has been admitted as the 194th member of the World Health Organization (WHO).

South Sudan’s health sector remains underdeveloped with the country having some of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world.
