JUBA, 17 February 2016 [Gurtong] – Some media reports have revealed that the Minister in President Kiir’s office, Mr. Awan Guol Riak stole 1 million US dollars and later fled to Kenya.

“The allegations that Hon. Awan Guol has stolen more than 1 million of US dollars from the President’s briefcase were mere and far-fetched, un-wanting fabrications in every sense of the word. The President has neither had such huge amount of money in his private briefcase nor did the Minister ever have any access to the President’s private properties,” Ateny said.

Mr. Ateny said that President Kiir has not reported any loss of money and for that matter has declared that the allegations are lies and carry no truth in them. Ateny said that such allegations are crafted by anti-peace propagandists.

Mr. Ateny has however, confirmed that Mr. Awan is in Kenya on a private trip and will soon be returning to Juba. Ateny denied that the Minister in question tried to travel to Canada as reported by some media outlets.

Two weeks ago the Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Marial Benjamin was also accused of having stolen half a million US dollars that was described as allowances of VIP personalities.
