Trump expects arrest Tuesday

On his own social media network, Truth Social, former US President Trump has announced that he expects to be arrested on Tuesday in relation to a legal investigation in Manhattan, New York. The investigation concerns allegations that Trump paid hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels, with whom he is said to have had a relationship. Trump claims to have concluded from leaked messages that his arrest is imminent.

In his post, Trump also makes various other statements, including claiming that the US is now a third world country and that the presidential election was stolen. He calls for resistance and protests to “take back the country.” Some American media outlets see this as a parallel to the storming of the Capitol two years ago.

The Manhattan Public Prosecutor’s Office has not commented on the matter. In the past, investigators from the Public Prosecution Service have looked into whether Trump committed similar violations to pay hush money, and it has been reported that an arrest is imminent. Justice would need to consult with the Secret Service to ensure that the procedure runs smoothly.
