As haze in Singapore worsens, the National Environment Agency (NEA), announced this Monday that it is going to persist the whole day of Monday the 3rd of November as the 24-hour Pollutants Standard Index (PSI) reading stayed in the high-end of the Moderate range and the low-end of the Unhealthy range.

“The hazy conditions that affected Singapore yesterday have persisted overnight and this morning, with the 24-hr PSI entering the Unhealthy range in some regions of Singapore at 3am. At 1pm today, the 1-hr concentrations of PM2.5 ranged from 27-51ug/m3, and the 24-hr PSI was 103-119, in the Unhealthy range. The haziness was due to smoke haze from southern Sumatra, blown in by the prevailing southerly winds,” said NEA at its website. “For the rest of today, the prevailing winds are forecast to blow from the south, and the current hazy conditions are expected to persist. The 24-hr PSI for Singapore is expected to be in the high-end of the Moderate range and the low-end of the Unhealthy range,” it further added.

“Given the air quality forecast for the next 24 hours, healthy persons should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion,” said the NEA. “The elderly, pregnant women and children should minimise prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion, while those with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. Persons who are not feeling well, especially the elderly and children, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, should seek medical attention.”
