The chairman of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Paul Godfrey, has been removed from his position by Premier Kathleen Wynne on Thursday, and now as a reaction the agency’s board is presenting its resignation en masse. The decision of ousting Mr. Godfrey surfaced a short while after Toronto’s Mayor Ford held a press conference in an extremely frustrated mood, declaring the plans of building a downtown casino in Toronto “essentially dead.”

Addressing a press conference at the Fairmont Royal York hotel on Thursday night, 74-year-old Mr. Godfrey stated to have seen the “writing on the wall” earlier this week, on account of different sources reporting his impending departure. He mentioned that “it’s really a sad day for the OLG, not because of my departure.” He added that “it’s been fun for me to do, I would have liked to finish the job I had started. Obviously the premier thought she wanted someone else.”

Meanwhile, Finance Minister, Charles Sousa, conveyed the call for Godfrey’s resignation on behalf Premier Kathleen Wynne, who allegedly called him later to thank him for his efforts. Mr. Godfrey stated that “I honestly believe the chemistry between Kathleen Wynne and Paul Godfrey just weren’t in the same plane. Some people you connect with, some people you don’t.” Additionally, Mr. Godfrey portrayed in other words figuratively, saying that “when she looks in [my crystal ball], she sees clouds and when I look at hers, I see clouds.”
