On Saturday January 1, 2011, at 3:15 AM, members of the London Police Emergency Response Section were investigating a disturbance in a parking lot at the corner of York Street at Richmond Street when the officers heard the sound of two gun shots. The officers turned their attention towards the sound of the gunshots and observed a male standing in the same parking lot with his hand in the air and holding a semi-automatic pistol. Then, the male fired off several more shots into the air and threw the pistol down towards a vehicle parked in the lot. The officers drew their service pistols and approached the male where he was arrested at gun point. After a search of the area surrounding the location of the gunshots, officers located and recovered several spent casings and a loaded .45 calibre pistol along with other live ammunition. All indications are the male was firing the pistol into the air and thankfully, given the time and location of the incident, no one was found or reported to have been injured as a result of this careless discharge of a firearm.
As a result of this investigation, 29 year old Yusuf HAYES of London is charged with Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Pubic Peace, Carless Use of a Firearm, Carless Storage of a Firearm, Unlicensed Person Possessing a Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Possession of a Firearm Knowing that Possession is Unauthorized and Possession of a Weapon contrary to a Court Order.
