Two hikers killed after falling into Heckman Creek, BC

On Saturday, August 13th Lumby RCMP attended approx one kilometer northwest of the Gold Panner campground in Cherryville, for two hikers who were in an out of bounds area and had slipped and fallen. The two along with a third friend were on a trail when one slipped. His friend managed to grab him however they both went off a very steep and unstable area, they both slid down the rocky slope to Heckman Creek. (AKA Monashee Creek)

The third male was able to find one of his friends at the edge of the creek, and go call for help he could not find the second man.

Vernon Search and Rescue, the RCMP helicopter and emergency personnel, were able to recover one hiker, a 22 year old resident of Peachland who had succumbed to his injuries from the fall. The second hiker, a 20 year old Kelowna resident is believed to have fallen into the creek and has not yet been located. The search continued yesterday without any success, it will continue today. This is the second missing person the emergency crews have been called out to in this area. The names of the two men are not being released at this time.
