Prime Minister Stephen Harper got himself into trouble by giving sloppy statements about Muslims. In a recent interview, PM Harper implied that extreme followers of Islam impose the greatest security threat to Canada’s sovereignty. Harper said so while emphasizing on the importance of reviving the anti-terrorism procedures that were banned around 5 years ago.

Andrew MacDougall, Harper’s spokesperson says, "As the Prime Minister indicated we do intend to reintroduce these two key provisions in order to better protect Canadians."

On the other hand, according to Liberal Chief Bob Rae, PM Harper is wrongfully putting giving too much heed to terrorists who declare to be Muslims.

Rae condemned Harper’s standpoint by saying: "We don’t have to single out just one. I think if you look at the outbursts of extremism around the world, I don’t think that you can limit it to just one religion, or ideology or form of nationalism."

He later added: "Is the prime minister saying that for the last four or five years we have been at risk, at greater risk, because the measures have not been in place? I think he has to answer that question."

Is seems like Rae is highly offended by Harper’s prejudiced statements merely to revive a few controversial security techniques. He aggressively said: "The enemy is not Islam. It is the way in which a religion is perverted and hijacked. The common enemy is violent extremism, the deliberate targeting of civilians, and the preaching of hatred. That should be our focus."
