Toronto ArgosThe Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to welcome 6-foot, 6-inch import receiver Demario Ballard to the practice roster. 

Ballard caught 70 passes for 1,186 yards and 12 touchdowns during three seasons at Western Oregon. As a senior, he was named First-Team All-GNAC when he caught 35 passes for 620 yards and 5 touchdowns. Ballard transferred to Western Oregon from Siskiyous Junior College where he was a standout basketball and football player. He was a final training camp cut of the NFL’s Detroit Lions this year. 

The club also announced that import QB Zack Eskridge has been removed from the practice roster today.

Acquired: Signed as a free agent with the Toronto Argonauts on September 20, 2011. 

2011: Signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions (NFL) and released as a final training camp cut on August 28. 

College: Played three seasons at Western Oregon (2008-10) and made 70 catches for 1,186 yards and 12 TDs…Played one season (2007) of football at Siskiyous Jr. College in California…2010 (WOU) Played 9 games for Western Oregon…Named 1st Team All-GNAC at receiver…Named 3rd Team All-Region at receiver…Made 35 catches for 620 yards and 5 TDs… Caught for at least 100 yards in 4 of 9 games… 2009 (WOU) Ruled academically ineligible to play in games…2008 (WOU) Transferred from Siskiyous College to WOU…Named 2nd Team All-GNAC at receiver in his first year of Division II football…2007 (Siskiyous College) Played his first season of football while also playing on the basketball team… Named All-California Junior College at receiver…2006 (Siskiyous College) Played basketball as a freshman. 

Personal: Demario graduated from Thomas High School in Thomas, Georgia in 2003 as a highly regarded basketball prospect. He elected to take two years off to work at a company called Rinker Materials which was a rock quarry before enrolling at Siskiyous Jr. College in California. There he played basketball as a freshman and both basketball and football in his second year. During his pro day he was clocked at 4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Demario majored in Business while at Western Oregon.
