The 55-year-old livestock auctioneer says he was not acquainted with his suspected attacker – the Ponoka man who surrendered to the RCMP on Thursday.

Blair Vold says, “I don’t know him or know of him. But I believe he did know me.”

Blair Vold is an owner of Vold, Jones and Vold Auction Co. in Ponoka. He was kidnapped from his residence near Ponoka at the dawn of Sept. 15.

Earlier, Vold said that a veiled man emerged from the forest with a gun pointed at him. He bound Vold’s hands, put a black cover over his head and insisted to give him $300,000 in cash. Vold ran away when the kidnapper went into a bank in Lacombe to try to get cash using Vold’s credit card.

According to RCMP Staff Sgt. Cameron Chisholm, investigators received anonymous tips after publishing clear security photos of a man using a CIBC bank machine. They got in touch with the suspect over the phone, and were able to persuade him to drive to the detachment and surrender.

Chisholm says the suspect drove quite a few hours under the instruction of cops. Vold thanked the RCMP for their hard work in the case.

He said: “It’s a relief. One part of the puzzle solved. We know he’s caught and he’s behind bars. It is weird and kind of crazy in our little town.”
