Mr. Nyibango Bour Nyibango speaking to Gurtong correspondent [©Gurtong]The Chief Advisor without Portfolio of South Sudanese Student’s Union in Uganda, Nyibango Bour Nyibango yesterday said that they are in support of the decision taken two months ago by the Government of South Sudan to shut down oil production in the country.

This came in a statement to the media yesterday at South Sudan Hotel while the union gave its position on the oil shutdown.

“We students in Uganda support the excellent decision taken the government under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit to shutdown the oil pipeline,” he said.

Bour said that it was better to halt oil production other than being stolen by Khartoum.

He however noted that there are challenges accompanied by the decision and affirmed their readiness to stand by what he termed as “wise decision from wise leadership.”

Bour also urged all the South Sudanese to be ready to face whatever challenges the oil shut down is likely to bring.

While discussions are ongoing in Addis Ababa, South Sudanese have expressed support on the decision.

Bour also commended the role of the President and Dr. Riek Machar Teny for the support they have been giving to the union and the students in Uganda.

He called on them to continue cooperating with the student unions and associations for the betterment of South Sudan.

He further revealed that they intend to hold a conference at the end of this month to discuss possibilities of forming one South Sudanese body for all students in East Africa, an initiative which was discussed by the two bodies of Kenya and Uganda last year.

Nevertheless, Nyibango said he met the president of the students’ union in Kenya and that they discussed ways of how to cooperate with the home based general students’ union and the government of South Sudan.

The union advisor also said that they were happy with the recent support from the Governors and the minister in the office of the president for cooperating with them.
