Ford Amphitheatre (Hollywood, CA)
Dance in the USA is an ambitious tribute-in-performance to the music that has made Americans shake their hips and move their feet throughout the country’s history. This Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre production at the historic Ford Amphitheatre features a series of intrwoven segments that include Aaron Copeland’s ballet “Rodeo,” the early 1900s Cakewalk, ragtime dances such as the Charleston, the Jitterbug and Swing, the Jive, the Twist and even early rock, disco and hip-hop dance styles. The American musical retrospective shows how American music influenced dance over the past century, and presents the variety and evolution of dance in the Ballet Russe style, with the 20 male and female dancers of the Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre re-eancting the distinctive personality of each musical era.
