The winless Kolkata Knight Riders are ready to take on unbeaten Nashua Titans in their Champions League T20 final act, at Newland in Cape Town tonight, October 21, 2012.
Riders will play their last match of the year before their appearance into the next year’s IPL. They know that they are out of the competition and only playing their last match for the pride. Gautam Gambhir led team have had a terrible start of their campaign with a 52-run defeat at the hands of IPL team Delhi Daredevils, before being annihilated by qualifiers Auckland Aces by seven wickets.
They had a washed out match against Perth Scorchers at Kingsmead, Durban on Wednesday hence ending their hopes of moving to the tournament semis, starting at Durban, from October 25. The probable KKR squad will include: Gautam Gambhir (captain), Lakshmipathy Balaji, Rajat Bhatia, Manvinder Bisla (wicketkeeper), Debabrata Das, Iqbal Abdulla, Jacques Kallis, Brett Lee, Brendon McCullum (wicketkeeper), Sunil Narine, Yusuf Pathan, Pradeep Sangwan, Shakib Al Hasan, Ryan ten Doeschate, Manoj Tiwary.
Titans own a solid batting line-up with much familiarity with the conditions. They cannot afford to take the Knight Riders lightly to make their way into the Semis. Brett Lee and Jacques Kallis will pose a stiff challenge to their highest scorers Jacques Rudolph and Henry Davids.
While Rudolph smashed an unbeaten 83, Davids has also contributed with a half-century. The Titans’ bowling has been superlative too with Cornelius de Villiers and Alfonso Thomas grabbing four wickets each. The likely Titans’ line up will include: Martin van Jaarsveld (captain), Farhaan Behardien, Henry Davids, AB de Villiers (wicketkeeper), Cornelius de Villiers, Paul Harris, Heino Kuhn (wicketkeeper), Eden Links, Ethy Mbhalati, Mangaliso Mosehle, Rowan Richards, Jacques Rudolph, Alfonso Thomas, Roelof van der Merwe, David Wiese.
