The confirmation of participation of NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman, and NHL Players’ Association Executive Director, Don Fehr, has now led many to finally believe that the National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association are eventually going to meet up again and attempt collective bargaining negotiations in New York on Tuesday for concluding a useful solution.

It has been more than two weeks with complete and utter silence from both parties and it seemed an unbreakable dead lock has ended the hope of a solution. NHL Deputy Commissioner, Bill Daly, and NHLPA General Counsel, Steve Fehr, met on Saturday and made at least enough development to guarantee another round of meetings from a fresh start. Reports claim that NHLPA have scheduled a conference call on Monday afternoon among all executive board members and negotiating committee.

It was revealed that that Fehr had mentioned in his email that “we had a series of meetings yesterday (Saturday) and exchanged views on the most important issues separating us.” Fehr added that “we plan to meet again sometime early this week.” Fehr stated that “hopefully we can continue the dialogue, expand the group, and make steady progress.”

This Monday the lockout will have reached an extensive 51st day. An unbelievable total of 327 games have already been cancelled, which also included the New Year’s Day Winter Classic that was wiped out Friday. Now the NHL has already announced that play of a full 82-game season is off the table and impossible.
