Sri Lanka will take on New Zealand in the third ODI at Kandy’s Pallekele International Stadium on Tuesday as the rain remains the main concern for the play.
The courageous skipper, Ross Taylor is expected to lead New Zealand in the fixture despite having been laid up in hospital last night (NZ time). Taylor and Andrew Ellis suffered from gastroenteritis during New Zealand’s Duckworth-Lewis loss in Pallekele. Taylor was the top-scorer with 72 from 62 balls despite vomiting before he went out to bat. All-rounder Ellis has also shown the symptoms of stomach flu and may not get fit in time. With no victory in their hands, the Kiwis must be looking over the fitness of the two players, especially Taylor. Also, they would want Brendon McCullum to play who could not play in the second ODI on account of a stiff lower back. Sri Lanka gained their first 14-run victory over New Zealand by Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method in the rain-hit second one-day international on Sunday to gain a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after the first ODI had been washed out. The day-night match was keenly poised when play was called off due to rain in Pallekele as Sri Lanka were 118-3 off 22.5 overs chasing a 251-run target. They were ahead of the D/L par score of 104 at that stage. Skipper Mahela Jayawardene was unbeaten on 43 with Angelo Mathews (seven not out). Opener Dilshan also get the honor of completing 1,000 one-day, runs in the year during his 51-ball knock.
