A pioneer of the modern blues and soul sound that emerged in the 1950s and 1960s, Bobby “Blue” Bland is often credited for helping develop an R&B-style of blues that’s heavily influenced by gospel music. The 82-year-old Memphis legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee headlines A Toast to the Blues along with R&B vocalist, songwriter and producer Willie Clayton. Clayton has performed with Ron Isley, Bobby Womack, Sam Cook and Marvine Gaye, and his singles have topped the Urban Adult Contemporary airplay chart. Guitarist Gregg Wright will provide the blues riffs and singer Sue Anne Carwell will accompany on vocals while comedian Luenell serves as the evening’s host.
