All the tension in the Toronto city council burst out in a shouting match between long-time rivals and possible election opponents Rob Ford and Adam Vaughan. Ford yelled at Vaughan saying that “you’re a liar — a liar, Adam Vaughan,” while aggressively threatening him to file an integrity complaint against the Ward 20 councilor.
Vaughan cleverly shouted back at Ford, saying that “you’ll be out of office before the report comes back,” taunting him about the judge’s order which compel him to vacate his office as mayor effective Dec. 10.This yelling between the two leaders ignited a free-for-all shouting match among all the councilors. The mayor’s brother Councilor, Doug Ford, furiously confronted Vaughan while pointing a finger at his face and yelled at Councilor Janet Davis to “sit down and shut up.” Rob Ford stepped away from the railing of the council floor and yelled at Vaughan repeating “Liar, liar, liar.”
The fuss began when Ford aggressively criticized Vaughan’s attempt to approve few things from the council. One of these things was the mayor’s development project on Queen St. W. being rejected by city staff but championed by Vaughan. Vaughan was asking council to overrule staff with a compromise he’d worked out between the local community and the developer, which includes $1 million in development fees. Ford accused Vaughan of “shaking down” the developer. He yelled that “you’re just upset you got caught trying to sneak something through” and now “you’re trying to sneak through a million dollars.” Vaughan ultimately won the vote 22-4, with only the Ford brothers, Frances Nunziata and Doug Holyday voting against it.
