Theatre Raymond Kabbaz, Le Lycee Francais de Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA)

Ibrahim Maalouf is one of the most daring trumpeters since Miles Davis, blending the quarter-tones of the Arab trumpet with the best in the jazz tradition. Despite growing up in one of the most artistically distinguished families in the French-speaking world (his father, Nassim Maalouf, is also accomplished trumpeter, while his uncle, Amin Maalouf, won the Prix Goncourt), Maalouf had no time distinguishing himself as a unique talent, not only within his own family, but throughout the contemporary jazz scene. At age thirty, his album Diagnostic created a sensation in France. The album sold more than 25,000 copies by the end of June 2012, making Maalouf the French jazz artist with the highest sales in the entire country for over two years. Now the Ibrahim Maalouf Quintet stops at the Bakery Cafe on the international tour for Wind, their newest album. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear the future of jazz now.
