The supporters of Idle No More movement have now planned to arrange a march on Highway 403 in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. This demonstration is one of the numerous protests scheduled to take place on Jan. 5, which include one at the Queenston/Lewiston bridge and one at the Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo.
The ‘Idle No More’ movement is largely supported by the almost one-month-old hunger strike of Attawapiskat First Nation Chief, Theresa Spence, who is demanding to meet Prime Minister Harper for discussing native rights. Protesters have planned to greet Harper on Friday on his visit to the Ford plant in Oakville, where he is expected to make an announcement along with Oakville MP, Terence Young, and Labour Minister and Halton MP, Lisa Raitt. Protesters have agreed to congregate at the plant around 10 a.m. Whereas, the prime minister is scheduled to take part in a photo opportunity at 11:45 a.m., after which will follow his announcement around noon.
The organizer of Saturday’s event have planned to convene around 1 p.m. at the Dundurn Plaza, i.e. located between Main Street West and King Street West, from where they will be marching down the King Street West ramp onto Highway 403. A coordinator of the local movement, Amanda Dale, declared that OPP is also working with the group. Negating the rumors of blocking the highway, Dale alleged that “the preference is to gain attention and to gain friendship so we can help them understand what is happening in their own country. Our point is join us. We are trying to inform Canadians.”
This protest is nothing a snowplow at 100km along the 403 couldn’t take care of…to the natives: the white man’s bill is long pacomment_ID for any historical wrongs; go out and get a job and contribute to this country in which we all live.
… and the comment_content above is a threat of violence against peaceful men women and children, and should be removed.
Idle No More has already made Harper blink, and is just beginning. 🙂
