Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School (Los Angeles, CA)
An L.A. native, award-winning clarinet prodigy and Colburn School alum, Richie Hawley returns to his alma mater for a performance with the Colburn Chamber Music Society. Appointed Principal Clarinet of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at the tender age of 23, he remains a sought-after recitalist and educator, now a music professor at Rice University. The concert features Bartók’s Contrasts for clarinet, violin and piano, commissioned by none other than the famed Benny Goodman and first performed by him at Carnegie Hall in 1940. Also on the program are Mozart’s Serenade No. 12 and Romantic Era composer Von Weber’s Grand Quintet.
