Skirball Cultural Center (Los Angeles, CA)

Dubbed “the Paganini of Indian classical music,” violin virtuoso-composer-conductor Dr. L. Subramaniam brings his exciting eight-piece world-music ensemble to Skirball for its L.A. debut. Among other stellar musicians, Global Fusion features blues harmonica player Corky Siegel and Subramaniam’s son Ambi, who’s been performing with his dad since the tender age of seven. In its worldwide travels, the group’s become known for integrating local music into its shows, not to mention welcoming special guest players. Subramaniam himself is a true innovator who combines South Indian Carnatic music with Western jazz, rock and classical influences. He’s also recorded and performed with everyone from Herbie Hancock, Stephane Grappelli and Ravi Coltrane to the New York Philharmonic, the Kirov Ballet and the Berlin Opera.
