Hon. Jacob Aligo, the CES Information Minister said the move which was resolved during the state’s Council of Ministers is aimed at ensuring security of the motorcars and their owners in the state.

“The number plates were changed because they were been abused. There is a lot of faking. There are people who even manufacture these things in Uganda and they sell to people and this poses a security threat,” Aligo said.

“It affects also our revenue. The other reason also we want to introduce a number plate where it will carry some security feature,” he added.

Aligo said government has already identified two companies who are being given orders to execute the move.

He also said the resolution demands that all new log books and driving licenses are renewed as government will introduce electronic ones.
