On the 2nd day of second test, Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored centuries on Thursday to help West Indies built up a 206-run lead over Zimbabwe in Dominica.
The hosts managed to reach381 for 8 at stumps with Chanderpaul top scoring his 28th test ton with 108 after Gayle scored 101. West Indies are looking for a sixth successive Test win – not achieved since 1988 – after bowling out Zimbabwe on the opening day for 175. Denesh Ramdin would have scored a century as well before trapping leg before by Graeme Cremer at 86. He along with Chanderpaul shared a 173-run 5th wicket stand to leave the inexperienced Zimbabwe bowlers with dismay, who then took four wickets in the final session. The 38-year-old Chanderpaul have also passed Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka into eighth place on the list of all time Test run scorers, by reaching 10,830 runs in 148 matches.
Chanderpaul got out with a catch by Sean Williams off spinner Prosper Utseya. Gayle was spectacularly caught in the deep by a diving Kyle Jarvis. The opener resumed from his overnight score of 61 to complete his 15th Test century. West Indies started the day on 114 for 2 but saw Marlon Samuels (26) bowled at the opening delivery of the day off Tendai Chatara.
The wickets of Ramdin (86) and skipper Darren Sammy (9) were the first of the series for Cremer. Utseya finished the day with 3-60, his first Test wickets.
