Just before 5 this morning Edmonton Police Service downtown officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck by an LRT train.

The train was heading southbound to begin the day on Monday, May 6, 2013 when it came across a body on the tracks between the Coliseum and Belvedere stations. The train was stopped as soon as possible, however the male was declared dead at the scene.

It is unclear if the male was deceased before the collision or died as a result of the impact. Police continue to investigate and are treating the death as suspicious.

There were no passengers on board at the time of the incident. The ongoing police investigation resulted in the temporary closure of the LRT tracks, however, the LRT has now resumed service and trains are running both north and south of this location.

The Major Collision Investigative Unit of the EPS Traffic Section is currently leading the investigation.
