Jahangir Khan Tareen – a leading entrepreneur and senior leader on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) – has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECO) to take prompt notice of his numerous requests for verifications of votes in his constituency. Tareen was addressing a press conference called by PTI Information Secretary Shireen Mazari on Tuesday.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has moved the ECP to take notice of 25 constituencies of the National Assembly where the party has claimed that the polls were rigged. Tareen blamed the respective returning officers for paying no heed to his complaints and performing a major role in altering the results over night.
“Returning officers mafia played a trick during recently held elections. They favored the candidates of their choice across the country and left no stone unturned to change the result in favor of their candidates. This is what happened in the constituency from where I contested polls,” Tareen said.
Tareen explained that all the private news channels had declared his victory by the evening of May 11; however, the results were intentionally altered after the victory speech of PML-N leaders was aired. He said the initial results of 200 polling stations of NA-154 showed him winner.
“Even the independent TV channels had declared me victorious on the Election Day but on the next morning I was declared as defeated with 10,000 votes. I believe, returning officers rigged in midnight… My application for recount had been kept pending for three days after 14 May. All of my attempts to access to the record were countered by the returning officers. I want the Election Commissioner to take notice of rigging and act accordingly,” Tareen said.
