The Los Angeles Philharmonic performs one of Stravinsky’s most influential works, The Rite of Spring, in its 100th anniversary year. When the piece premiered in 1913 as a ballet, Stravinski’s avant-garde score combined with Vaslav Nijinsky’s equally avant-garde choreography nearly caused a riot in the audience and sparked a revolution that changed the course of classical music. This masterpiece of orchestral color and energy is led by a master of those elements, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Principal Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Also on the program, fiery and expressive young violin virtuoso Augustin Hadelich tackles the temperaments of Tchaikovsky’s beloved Violin Concerto.
