Hollywood Bowl (Hollywood, CA)
San Francisco Symphony music director Michael Tilson Thomas commands the baton at the Bowl as he leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a performance of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony. Soprano Keira Duffy, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke and the Los Angeles Master Chorale join them on the vaunted outdoor stage for a stirring rendition of this orchestral-choral masterpiece, with its initial funereal tone giving way to a joyous ode to everlasting life. A 13-time Grammy winner and a recipient of the National Medal of the Arts, L.A.-native Tilson Thomas recently wrapped up a recording of Mahler’s complete orchestral works of Gustav Mahler with the San Francisco Symphony. Award-winning American soprano Kiera Duffy is famed for her musical range, tackling everything from the baroque to the modern sounds of Berg and Glass, and Cooke is the exciting young star who collected raves for her performance in the Metropolitan Opera premiere of John Adams’ Doctor Atomic, and opened last year’s summer season at the Bowl.
