FEAST IN THE EAST is a monthly east end music, food & installation series. This month features dinner by Neil Rankin & Tad Michalak. ANAMAI (https://soundcloud.com/anamaimusic) Droned out shoegaze-y folk jams, featuring members of Hussy. Soft slow moving vocals whisper over eerie soundsscapes of guitar & dissonant effects. Languid, thin, sparse compositions attempt to sound larger than they are, stretching ominous layers over a desolate yet welcoming plane. Like the most relaxing haunted house ever. JINDALEE (http://jindalee.bandcamp.com/) Toronto singer/songwriter creates delicate post rock influenced folk music. Stringing poetic verses over subtle drawn out instrumentation. Sparse guitar notes twang & shimmer. A story teller for old times sake. Her words dance with great care, as if navigating some treacherous landscape. Hesitant to let too much of her sprit get away, she masters a minimal world. SLIME Neil Rankin (Gay, New Positions, etc) get real & raw with his solo sax/radio tuning project. Radio feedback, split frequencies warbled & twisted through effects create a pulsating backdrop for a menagerie of free sax gurgling. Like a gnarled beast with a heart of gold Rankin coughs up tough licks in this skronk freak fest. MANTICORE (https://soundcloud.com/mmmanticore) Zoe Alexis-Abramd & David Jones touch the outer realms of alien communication with their duo Manticore. Haunting guitar tones shriek & twist as if letting go of some captive spirit. Like an unnatural wind meandering through an abandoned factory. Zoe’s voice hovers above these eerie manifestations, some times joining them in an alien chatter, almost creating a dialogue with the wayward phantoms. As captivating as it is versatile, her vocals occupy an adventurous, almost naive territory, as they stretch out their acrobatic routine in a venomous world. Come early ti check this!
